Last night, after periodic prodding on my part, all the indicators in the universe came together and Doug decided it was time to buy suits. This has been a topic of discussion for, well, decades I think. Doug and Emily actually share similar clothes shopping approaches -- they REALLY need to be in the right mood for it to happen. So, last night as he was driving home, he heard that Jos. A. Banks was having a suit sale -- buy one get two free. That tipped it all, and after dinner we went to the store in Clarendon. There were a lot of sales people there, ready for the crowds, and the store did fill up.
But boy, men do shop differently! It was all so quiet and methodical, very little discussion...you could hear a pin drop on the carpet! I kept thinking of when we went to look at wedding dresses, and all the jumping around fussing with the trains, lots of opinions flying, Kate was very animated. Of course, I guess the context was different! I made a comment that Doug only bought suits every 10 years or so, and several of the guys replied that was, yea, about right. The tailor was there measuring away, and marked up 6 nice suits for Doug. And, I must say, he looked very handsome in each of them. I pressed him to get one brown suit -- I just love brown suits on men though we'll see how often he brings that one out.
