I had applied for the position of Regional Special Focus Case Coordinator for the Amnesty Mid-Atlantic Region, and heard yesterday that I got the position.   I spoke with people on the phone today, and will have a meeting soon to get up to speed on the case -- involving 2 people jailed in Indonesia for raising a flag...other than that, I have homework to do!  I'm excited about doing this because I'll be working on something positive and be involved with people who share my world view.  It's a volunteer position, and is supposed to take 2-3 hours a week, but I'm sure it won't.  Here's a link to the major talking points of the case.

Today Mom and I went to visit Hillwood -- the estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post.  It's located a little north of the zoo, and only took about 15 minutes to get there (thanks to map lady).  Today is a crisp 68 degrees, little breeze -- just beautiful.  So, we decided to just do the gardens today, and leave the house for bad weather.  The Japanese garden is beautiful, but my camera ran out of batteries when we got there, so all I got is the cute cherub above.  We had a nice little lunch -- borsch and salad -- at an outdoor table at the cafe.
