It was a morning that reminded me of Colorado, just cooler and crisper than Virginia usually gets.  I had the dog with me, and he is endlessly fascinated by the cemetery, which has gates on our street.  He's a rule breaker like his mom...in general people don't like the idea of dogs peeing on graves, not that the dead person cares, but I guess that's the reasoning.  I know he's not really allowed in there, and he knows that it's where he wants to be because it has all the good smells (wonder why.)  So, I compromised today (I always find the middle path, you know), and we went into a little circular driveway area with grass and bushes, but no dead people.  He pulled me to an area of grass that was particularly enticing for him, and as I looked more closely, I found something that looked liked dry mushrooms, about 15 dirty pennies scattered over the area, and some kind of animal scat that I couldn't identify, but it was from a smaller animal.  I immediately thought that a ritual of some type must have taken place here -- or that if I could read these objects all would be answered.  I assume that there were also some animal entrails that had already been scattered by beasts.  I came away with no enlightenment, just the really dirty pennies (what the hell was on them) that are now soaking in a little dish of soap.
