Last night the ladies on our street had our first meeting of the "article club" -- a book club but shorter. We read a chapter from Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation by Olivia Judson. Also check out her blog on the NY Times. She is an amazingly accessible scientist writing for all of us.
The chapter we read had to do with insects and mating, so I found a good drink to serve: The Praying Mantis. I didn't have any, but reports were that it was good and strong. It's made with equal parts of brandy, green chartreuse, and heavy cream -- shake with ice and strain into a glass. I also made an almond cake from David Lebovitz's blog -- it's very plain, very almondy, very yummy. I served it with spiced peaches on the side, because I think that spiced peaches made with fresh summer peaches is just a staple...right there with milk and veggies and bread.
