As part of our unusually busy weekend, Doug and I went to Nationals Stadium to see Elton John and Billy Joel (the pics aren't mine). I thought the two of them gave a great performance, singing tons of stuff you'd want to hear, but the stadium really isn't a very good venue. The sound was bad and the jumbotrons weren't jumbo enough -- but, everyone had a good time. Elton's piano had a stuck pedal and they rearranged things until somehow that got fixed -- and Billy Joel was totally flexible about stepping in and making sure the show went on. I read a review that said that Elton stormed off stage, but I didn't see it that way. The piano is his instrument, and it has to work for him -- I think he tried to work through it, but it was clearly not functioning properly. In several songs (on the fixed piano) he did long piano riffs -- which required...a good piano.
