Here we are on the lanai in Fort Myers.  Doug and I spent three days with Minor and Melissa.  Melissa had some things she wanted to accomplish while we were there, primarily dealing with Minor's condition.  She was really hoping that we'd be the ones to tell him that he can't drive any more, but we couldn't do that.  We set up a "driving test" but he passed -- he actually did quite well.  Unfortunately, the test really didn't test a lot of important things...so next time we go we'll devise a test that he'll fail!  Because, in all fairness to the population of Fort Myers, he really shouldn't be driving!  It was amazing though that he did so well -- the mechanics are like riding a bike, I guess.  He was good at signaling, stopping at stop signs, he did an OK job parking -- we went to Target.  On the one hand, he's not going to get into the car and try to go someplace new -- he'll only go to a handful of places that he knows.  But, we'll get him next time!

On our last evening there we had Laurie, Bruce and Barb over for a simple dinner.  Bruce has been a rabid government-hater for the last several years, and now that Obama is president he's just over the top.  What surprised us, though, is how much Barbara has joined in.  Laurie just rolls her eyes and tries to change the subject.  It's sad because you wouldn't have seen this in them earlier -- they were never hate-filled people.  Bruce in particular was always just happy and easy-going, and now so much energy is going negative for them.  They eat up Rush and read his and other crazy people's books.  Bruce thinks that we need to nuke the whole Middle East, starting with Iran.  He also says that the flu is going to be overblown by the evil government as a way to force us to nationalize medicine.  Heck, if that's what it takes to get our health care system fixed, I say overblow away.
