Today I went to the Arlington Obama headquarters to volunteer. It's a beautiful fall day, so I said I'd be glad to go out doing door-to-door canvassing. I hooked up with a woman from Charlottesville who had done this kind of work before, and we headed out to about 40 houses. The campaign was very organized for us -- we got clipboards with maps, addresses, names of people...and we collected data about which way people planned to vote. This is not a tough job in Arlington! But for us it's a way to make sure people are engaged, and get volunteers. We only met one person who was going to vote for McCain. The volunteers also were given a list of phone numbers to call if we needed help, and one of the people was Chris Mehrabi. Particularly in Arlington, I never think I'll run into anyone I know -- and there he was. I'm glad he's so involved, and hope I can run into him here in the next few weeks.
