Friday night we went to see The Imaginary Invalid in Washington. It was so nice to get on the Metro and go into town for a show. This one was kept over because of demand and good reviews. It was funny, energetic, and silly -- my kind of play! The actor who played the invalid, Rene Auberjonois, was fantastic.
Saturday I went to Fredericksburg to get my hair done and to pick up some prescriptions. It was two hours to get there and 1 1/2 home -- no accidents, just pure traffic volume. When Doug and I went out to Leesburg this morning to pick up the cupboard we took the Dulles Greenway. It was divided 3 lanes and virtually empty. So how did that road get built? Even if there is more traffic at different times, I95 wouldn't look like that any hour of any day.
At 5 on Saturday I met up with Kate and we went to an Amnesty crab fest. It was pouring rain when we started off, but it cleared up. I didn't feel like fighting with crabs out in the wet yard, so I ate some of the black bean salad I brought, and lots of other stuff that I didn't really like but it was there. I should have had a protein bar in the car on my way home from the 'burg.
Today is Sunday, and everyone is coming for dinner. I'm making a Cuban pork roast that marinated overnight in a brine of salt, orange juice, garlic, rosemary, paprika and probably other things too. Now it slowly cooks for 6 hours. It's finished off under the broiler with a glaze made with lemon sherbet. On the side we'll have home made egg noodles from the German bakery and fresh aspergras. Mom is making chocolate chip cookies. I got the pork recipe from the Oprah magazine cookbook.
Today is finally beautiful -- not as hot, nice breeze. Doug and I sat out on the back deck with our coffee this morning, and Neko came out and explored the whole yard -- in the daylight! What a brave boy.
