7.27.2008

7.27  We started the day by walking to the Heidelberg Bakery on Lee Highway.  It is such an amazing place.  It was a good walk in the HEAT, so I didn't feel bad at all about my yummy lemon fluffy leaves pastry and coffee.

Then I went to pick up my new bike.  I rode it home from the bike store on Arlington's neat bike trail -- it was very nicely maintained and clearly marked...but, HILLY.  I don't mind walking up hills -- you get great exercise doing that too.  I'll get some photos of my tricked out bike on here soon.

Sunday Dinner

One thing I've always wanted to do was to have family Sunday Dinners.  I hope it will be a time to share our adventures of the past week -- like Kate and Rob's Beer Fest -- and talk about the week to come.  It will also be a time to experiment with foods that I might not make for just the two of us.  For a great rundown on the Beer Fest, see Rose's blog.

I got a nice cookbook from the California Wine Country (Joanne Weir's More Cooking in the Wine Country) at the library, and saw this recipe for rolled up chicken breasts -- with proscuitto, fontina cheese, and sage, baked in white wine/chicken broth.  I saw big fat chicken breasts at Whole Foods, so I got them...to find they still had the bones in.  But, Suzanne has good knives, so I set about to remove the bones and split the breasts.  I've never felt very good in the meat cutting department, but it all went well.  Then I found a meat mallet and smashed them a little.  Then you layer everything, roll up, and tie with string.

Menu:  Chicken Rolls, Fresh Green Beans, Brown/Wild Rice, Fresh Watermelon, Mom's yummy fresh peach cobbler with ice cream.

Also, notice the cutting board in the kitchen.  Suzanne carved out a rectangle in her counter so the board just slips right in there -- keeps it nice and secure, but is easily removed for cleaning.
